About this deal

Jones, Nicolette (April 21, 2019). "Children's book of the week: Ada Twist and the Perilous Pantaloons by Andrea Beaty, illustrated by David Roberts". The Sunday Times . Retrieved February 23, 2020.

Through this lyrical text children can get to know Iggy and be inspired by his love of architecture. A vital text, not only to ignite passions about design and technology, but to learn about problem solving and perseverance. It is also a super introduction to the Questioneers, a group of children who are role models in different fields, from science to illustration to engineering. Andrea Beaty is a significant author with a distinctive poetic style and is supported by David Roberts’ wonderful technical illustrations. Links and themes:

Architecture, buildings, local area, links to STEM subjects, design and technology, positive role models, problem solving, perseverance Tape all the newspapers (or trash bags) together in one large circular band, big enough inside to hold everyone on the team! Each child holds his or her section of the marble run in place, so the marble rolls through the piping from one end to the other. It's definitely worth reading from the library, and the message about creativity at school is timely as more and more schools (ours included) seem to become very boilerplate, but there was some essential spark that I wasn't finding.

Finally, the children create a fact file where they incorporate the learning they have experienced over the course of the sequence of learning. Phonics-based activities have been included to support the application of phase 5 knowledge into writing. Synopsis of Text:I thought the illustrations fitted this story quite well, and for the most part the rhymes were good - only a few times did Beaty "stretch" for the rhyme. But, I thought the word choices were delightful and sounded fun to say and I never felt Beaty talked down to her readers. But I was most pleased with the stories underlying sense of striving for your dreams and how dangerous adults and institutions can be to putting a damper on a child's creativity. a b "Individual Author Record: Andrea Beaty". The Illinois Center for the Book . Retrieved 22 February 2020. I also agree with those who feel that portraying the teacher as the bad guy here seems to be both piling on in blaming teachers and a teaching moment gone wrong. I say this as the son and relative of many classroom teachers.
