About this deal

You’re able to connect an external footswitch so if in the future you begin to feel limited by the one footswitch, you can easily expand it for more control. RC-3 vs Ditto X2 MIDI control: when you get to this level of looping, you’re probably going to want MIDI. MIDI gives you an easy way to sync up multiple pedals and instruments. The RC 505 MK2 is a tabletop looper that you operate with your hands, whereas the RC 600 is a foot-based looper that you operate with your feet. So while the RC 505 is aimed at vocalists and beatboxers, the RC 600 is aimed at guitarists or any instrumentalist who has busy fingers. The RC-3 adds useful features such as saving up to 99 loops and a rhythm player. These features make the RC-3 a worthwhile upgrade from the RC-1. The X2 only adds in two loop effects that most players aren’t going to use.

Due to the size of the RC 500, the display is nowhere near as intuitive as that you’ll find on the RC 600. Not that it’s bad by any means – it isn’t. Only in this case, the RC 600 does it better. Note: If you want to know when the Boss RC-600 was released relative to other Boss looper pedals, we’ve made a timeline of all the Boss loopers here. The Boss RC-600 is Big. Boss RC-600 6 Track Loop Station Overview

As you will read next, a better comparison is the RC-3 and the RC-5. Read about the RC-5 below before you decide on either one. You can see you have important features such as microphone input, MIDI control, external footswitch control, etc. For example, you could connect an electric guitar to one input and an electro-acoustic guitar to the other input (or any other instrument). Then you’re able to create loops from either instrument as needed. Even the basic loop station pedals can be used this way.

You may find that the three footswitches on the RC-500 are more than enough to give you adequate control over your loops and you may prefer the other modern features such as the color-coded screen. Number of footswitches: the number of footswitches plays a big role in how easy a looper is to use and how many different things you can do with it The RC 505 MK2 is the more accessible piece of kit. The RC 600 boasts 9 foot-switches & a screen, the RC 505 MK2 boasts over 30 buttons. all of which tend to make it the more user-friendly of the two. With the 600, you will need to spend more time sifting through menus. To update the SUB output routing, press MENU, press knob 2 to select OUTPUT, press knob 1 to select SETUP, then turn the associated knobs to turn the SUB outputs on or off (knobs 3 and 4). If you’re a live performer looking for a solid range of features, the choice is tough between the RC-5 and other units such as the RC-10R, RC-30, or RC-500. BOSS RC-3 vs RC-5You want your looper pedal to last you a long time, so choose one that you’re not going to outgrow. Opposed to the majority of loopers which are made of plastic, the Boss RC 600 is encased in metal. So as you can imagine, when compared to your average looper, it’s likely able to take more of a beating. Great if you’re looking for a looper to take on tour. All wich come at the expense of time, wich in return could be a better investment when creating a new song/loop. There are some minor issues that persist, though. In particular, many report breaking the buttons, and they do seem more flimsy than on other pedals, like the Ditto X4 or the Electro-Harmonix 22500. You really don’t expect this from Boss, but you get the sense that the build quality is worse than usual.

Both these loopers incorporate real-time time-stretch, that actually works pretty well. We found that for speeding up the recording, this tends to work better than for slowing it down.Actually, before we embark on any intrepid menu-diving adventures, we will indeed start by simply plugging and playing – and it sounds great. It’s debatable how much difference the audio specs really make when you’re running everything through a crusty old valve amp, but even listening through studio monitors there’s no obvious ‘digitising’ of the signal going on here. For anyone who’s often ‘on the go’, you’ll be pleased to know that the RC 500 can be powered by batteries (4X AAs). Something you cannot do with an RC 600 looper. Inputs. Now, while on the RC 500 you do get: 2X quarter inch inputs/ outputs + midi in/ out, expression pedal input, as well as USB, with the RC 600, you get substantially more!
