Mindfulness simply put is our attention to the present moment, to notice what is going on in an actual moment and in doing so accepting our thoughts, feelings and sensations. Mindfulness also allows us to become more aware of the stream of thoughts and feelings that we experience, and to see how we can become entangled in that stream in ways that are not helpful. Mindfulness describes the above scenario as a ‘reactive state’, where the flight or flight centre of the brain is activated. This provokes a stress reaction in your body so your thinking is all future-focused. The present moment does not feature in your life. This describes why we often feel like we’re missing out on ‘just being there’. This isn’t about changing anything or slowing down the breath; it is simply teaching them to notice and observe their breath and hopefully begin to connect with it. I felt very guilty for finding it tough after longing for a family for so long! Motherhood is the greatest thing and the toughest thing all at once and the moment this tiny person arrives in your world nothing ever feels the same again.I’m very excited for you to give some of the techniques a try. I think you’ll be surprised at how small, simple changes can ignite enormous change in your life.
