About this deal

The car was given a significant overhaul in 2020, which saw the X removed from the Crossland’s name. Regardless, a used Crossland or Crossland X remains an attractive choice thanks to its conveniently spacious size and lower-end running costs.

The Crossland X follows in the footsteps of the widely respected Meriva and takes design cues from the well-loved Astra for its interior. The design is refined and subtle with sleek elegance, which is accentuated as you climb the trim levels and access premium design features like the colour-contrasting roof and leather upholstery. The SE is the entry-level trim for the Crossland X. Inside, you'll find Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display for full smartphone functionality. Cruise control takes the strain out of long drives, while automatic wipers and lights support you in rough weather and low-light driving. There are also LED daytime running lights. Upgrading to the SE Nav trim adds a larger 8-inch display, sat nav and voice control. Sharper intrusions can cause quite a nasty thump through the suspension, too, for which our test car’s 17in alloy wheels and 50-profile tyres cannot be entirely blamed. Instead, it would seem to hint at an underlying shortage of sophistication and tuning potential in the Crossland X’s suspension with which neither the latest Vauxhall Astra nor the Vauxhall Insignia suffered with. Vauxhall’s OnStar — billed as ‘your personal onboard assistant’ — and 4G wi-fi hotspot features are big draws for both the Astra and the Insignia, but although it may sound the same, what you get in the Crossland X isn’t quite equivalent. The Tech Line Nav trim gains rear parking sensors, helping you park with confidence. There are some additional styling tweaks to give it a more luxurious appearance. Because it’s a three-cylinder unit, the motor also revs quite sweetly and likes to be worked hard. But the throttle response is sufficiently soft at low and middling revs as to make the car feel like it’s surging off in a quite unpredictable fashion at times – at least until you get used to waiting for a second or so after any given pedal application before the engine’s response is fully delivered. You've probably forgotten the Vauxhall Meriva. Most have. Small MPVs used to be a thing, but buyers deserted them a few years ago for small SUV-crossovers. Even if those people want a crossover, an MPV might still actually be a whole lot more use to them. They want rugged looks, but they need space and versatility and fuel economy. So the Crossland is, in short, a mini MPV disguised as a crossover. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the offer details are accurate and up to date, Vauxhall reserves the right to change offers at any time. All offers are available at participating Retailers only.

This, the Vauxhall Crossland X, is the first. The second, the Vauxhall Grandland X, will be larger than its siblings. Market overkill? The Elite trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a colour-contrast roof for extra style and a 7-inch infotainment display. You can upgrade to the Elite Nav for the 8-inch display and sat nav capabilities. Other subtle styling tweaks include adding an alloy effect to the front and rear skid plates and a colour-contrasting mirror to add that extra level of luxe. The updated Crossland, now without the ‘X’, is still built on the same platform as the last-gen Peugeot 2008. So while the Crossland broadly looks and feels like a Vauxhall, those familiar with Peugeots will spot a few common components. The key and infotainment system, for example. The upshot is an interior that’s a mish-mash of fonts, grains and finishes, and that has a handful of quietly classy and stylish touches but just as many hard, shiny plastics. The overall impression of the cabin is agreeable and inoffensive, with a good ergonomic layout and instruments that are visible and readable – and you can’t say all of that about a Peugeot 2008. So, should you choose the Vauxhall Crossland over rival small SUVs? For example, you might also be considering the Ford Puma, the Nissan Juke, the Skoda Kamiqor the VW T-Roc.Luton’s justification is that the Mokka X has more premium allure than its stablemate. The Mokka X can be had with large alloy wheels and four-wheel drive, and is pitched as a rival to the Nissan Juke and Skoda Yeti. The Crossland X features an infotainment system with a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity that will keep your passengers content and entertained. All trims support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with simple controls that make life that little bit easier. SRI Nav adds ambient interior lighting, driver’s centre armrest, Flex Floor adjustable-height boot floor, 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, an alarm and tinted rear windows. Elite Nav supplements this with an eight-inch sat-nav enabled colour touchscreen, voice control and a second USB charging connection.

And the relatively bluff front end has received a Vauxhall grille and headlights to reasonable effect. But Vauxhall thinks the Mokka X is the more premium proposition and, in appearance, we’d agree.

When you head out into the countryside and along winding lanes, the steering feels accurate and faithful enough for you to guide the Crossland with relative ease. Sadly, though, with less grip and more body lean than some of its lighter-footed rivals, it's not a whole heap of fun. It's also affected by crosswinds on motorways. The Crossland's interior looks smart at a glance, but while there are some chrome and glossy details, it's mostly covered in scratchy plastics that feel cheap and, in places, notvery sturdy. Designed to combine breathability and style, Merrell sandals are perfect for warm-weather explorations. Feel the refreshing breeze against your feet as you explore sandy beaches, go for leisurely walks, or embark on casual outdoor activities. We’re now well used to PSA’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine in various Peugeots, Citroëns and DSs, where it commonly seems a slightly uncouth but likeably strong and characterful motor. Elite adds dual-zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, driver’s centre armrest, Flex Floor adjustable-height boot floor, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, an alarm and tinted rear windows.
