Teeth whitening by a dentist or other dental professional can generally only be done privately because it's considered to be a cosmetic treatment. Costs vary and laser whitening is more expensive than professional bleaching. Whitening at home for 3 weeks does the same damage to enamel as drinking 1 can of coke. There is no evidence that it has any effect on the nerves or root surfaces of teeth.
