Company Star Media produced Russian adaptation of the series (broadcast in Russia under the title Detective Rush) named Without Prescription. [8] The show consists of 25 episodes. [9] Satire [ edit ] I have read the first three novels in this series and jumping forward to the 14th was not a problem. Many of the characters from previous books are involved in this story with the exception of Gigi, the faithful basset hound belonging to Bruno. However, Bruno has a newer dog, another basset hound called Balzac. For thirty years, Bruno's boss, Chief of Detectives Jalipeau, known as J-J, has been obsessed with his first case. It was never solved and Bruno knows that this failure continues to haunt J-J. A young male body was found in the woods near St Denis and never identified. For all these years, J-J has kept the skull as a reminder. He calls him 'Oscar'.

Blair, Gavin J. (20 April 2016). "Japan's Wowow and Warner Bros. to Co-Produce Local Version of 'Cold Case' ". The Hollywood Reporter . Retrieved 27 February 2018. Another recent installment of the Dordogne mysteries and this time it concerns Bruno’s friend whose first murdercase never has been solved. J.J. Still has the skull around as prove that he has yet to solve this case which never gave any clues over the years. J.J. Has lived with this skull and even named him Oscar because the identity of this victim has never been found. Bruno gets involved in a 30 year old mystery, when a body was found and never identified. This was the Chief of Detectives, Jean-Jacques (J-J) Jalipeau’s first case, a murder that he never managed to solve, which Bruno knew still haunted him.

Bruno is a great character, kind, smart and dutiful. His duty to his community takes centre stage for part of the novel and it’s a wild ride with some ingenious solutions. It also raises some serious points. One imagines that the Trump indictment is going to revive an old podcast subgenre … or maybe a new generation of news podcasts?
