My introduction to Dune was the David Lynch film and the design of the Navigator in the film is something that continues to haunt me. Having this front piece mirror aspects of that character, brings me an immense amount of joy. Seeing the endless tanks behind her is simply awe inspiring. The colors of the setting give the location a sinister feel, which are increased by Norma’s barely visible image. Add to that the beautiful sky full of stars and planets, and this is perfection. From the first Guild Navigator, Norma Cenva, all Guild Navigators got mutated by the excessive amount of Melange they consumed; this made them develop weird humanoid features. Guild Navigators effectively replace Navigational computers used in the days of old. During The Butlerian Jihad, all " thinking machines" were gathered and destroyed, with a commandment against their usage, "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind". Instead humanity now relies on Navigators and their prescient abilities to determine safe routes throughout the cosmos. The inner structure of the Guild during and after the time of Paul Atreides was never fully revealed. However, it is known that the role of Guild Navigator was most prestigious, and the ambition of almost all of those who joined the Guild. Navigator Tanks: Navigator Tanks are large anti-gravitation tanks used to protect the prescience of Guild Navigators by constantly pumping them Spice gas. Navigators get placed into the tanks at the beginning of their training as elite Guildsmen.

Heighliner: A Heighliner is a starship used by the Spacing Guild to transport people and objects across the vast expanse of space. Outside, Empok, the capital city of Lampadas, sparkled with warm orange lights in the countless simple buildings. Insects made quiet songs, and the planet seemed deceptively peaceful as Manford composed himself for a contemplative sleep. Until a thundering roar shattered the darkness.
