About this deal

Once you've got the two modules connected in series, you need to use MC4 cables to bring that power to wherever your electrical equipment is located (usually a circuit breaker and a solar charge controller). Depending upon the location of the combiner box, there may be a greater distance from one side of the panel string to the combiner box than from the opposite side of the panel string. The total number of modules that can be combined will depend upon the electrical rating and physical size of the combiner box.

You must insert the two extended posts on the end of the tool into the side of the female MC4 connector. Due to the locking mechanism of the MC4 connectors, they will not come unplugged and are well suited for outdoor environments. I have never had problems with my SAE connectors, but I have helped fellow campers to set up and crack down and I hate MC4 connectors. But I also prefer 200 watts to anything smaller because in any conditions the larger wattage will charge quicker (twice as fast as a 100 watt system). only one trip in slushy road salt was enough to degrade the connections, to raise resistance and blow the battery fuse switch repeatedly even tho the CTEK only draws 6a for vehicle charging on CI house battery.

When we got our 550 the suitcase choices were too expensive for my taste so I bought an inexpensive panel that would fit in our small TV. I'm sure people will have a fit when I say how I solved my wire problem between the panel and the camper. MC4s seem to be used more on heavier gage wire (lower resistance) than SAE so if you have a long run in dusty or morning dew/rain wet area out over a few days, so the advantage is to MC4. If not, I can still add the MPPT controller and just mount it to a board to be placed either in the galley or even propped up on the ground when charging. Note: Never connect or disconnect solar connectors whilst they are under electrical load as this can cause arcing which can damage the contacts.

I've also read that energy loss is less a function of the connectors and more about distance and gauge of wire. Nobody wants to purchase an expensive cable and later find out the length is too short after it's been cut. I did add some stiffener material to the back of the panels and attached the panels with zippers and they have survived a few 30 knot days and one night with winds gusting well over 55 knots. Systems using two modules are generally used for RV's and boats, so you can usually use the extension cables along the entire distance.and the adaptor is very easy to connect your solar panel chargers and the other battery chargers with the SAE connectors. Easy to use, charge your solar with the adapter cable and for easily connecting to RV solar panels, suitable for most the solar panel kit. I cut off the ends of an heavy duty extension cord --- the female end, I attached that to the twistlock which goes to the camper.

Solar connector cable, providing with quick and easy connect or disconnect for your RV solar panel by this sae adapter cable and simple plug removal without any additional instruments, compatible with mc4 connector cable. Comes with reverse polarity adaptor - please ensure that the positive and negative from the panel match with the connectors as often the MC4 connectors in particular will be reversed. Generally, the female MC4 connector is associated with the positive lead and the male connector is associated with the negative lead. They plug-in either way so you need to keep track of the + - yourself when you're making the wires up to receive them. I do agree with you regarding the suitcase panel - I wish I had one and will probably upgrade at some point. I can say, as someone who likes to park in the shade, I am often placing my solar panel at the limit of my wire's reach (20-25').

If you're only using two modules, or two strings of modules, the easiest method is to use MC4 multibranch connectors. Finally, to prevent sea air and rain from corroding the electrical business ends, a compatible "grease" could be applied that wouldn't attack the rubber or plastic body of the connector but would keep the metal protected. You need to keep the polarities straight with the SAEs but other than that I find them excellent, simple and have had no problems at all.

Unfortunately I don't think there is ever a perfect answer since it's impossible to know the exact future conditions you will find yourself in. The CTEK also manages charging the battery when connected to the tow vehicle and gives a much better charge than just charging from the vehicle alternator. The other consideration is the gradual loosening up of the pinch action as they are connected and disconnected repeatedly. If the pinch is insufficient, gentle compression on the female receiving component will offer assurance of a good connection.
