The real bummer here is that I’ve had to spend so many words analyzing all that ancillary stuff, because once I’m playing a hole in PGA Tour 2K23, most of those nuisances fade away. This is a true-playing golf game — I had a devil of a time with the steep greens at Los Angeles’ Riviera Country Club, and I’ve found it tremendously satisfying to craft and execute shots. The unforgiving difficulty of the swing mechanics, coupled with the game’s complicated system of fittings and skills, can lead to more frustration than fun. But when it all comes together, and I manage to pull out a birdie just when I need one to hold off a challenger on the leaderboard, it makes for thrilling moments of fist-pumping glory. PGA 2K23 is great for solo mode against the CPU pros in MyCareer, but Online Societies is what will likely keep golfers on the course. It's hard to say much about Online Societies in 2K23 since the game is in its infancy, but 2K already has its official society up and running with active tournaments. You can create your own societies–basically clubs–to play alongside your friends, or join one of the many other societies that cater to all skill levels. Online Societies offers an easy way to compete on the course against other golfers without having to actually go head-to-head at the same time. Playing in tournaments is a good way to earn virtual currency from purse prizes. To improve your gameplay, it is recommended that you distribute your points equally in the skills section along vertical paths. This strategy will allow you to play well and then catch up in a predictable manner. Finally, you get to all of your passes, where you have three skill points to distribute for each selection. In this section, you should also concentrate on your putt weight. Create your own dream course with the Course Designer, which features thousands of customizable objects and cross-platform sharing.Though PGA 2K21 technically had real pro golfers, they were only your competition; you couldn't play as them, which felt weird. At least those guys can still compete at The Players Championship and in the FedEx Cup… just not in real life. As a side note, the orchestral music playing over the menus painfully adds to the idea of golf being a dull, elitist game.
