Our reviews feature a unique tripartite ranking system that captures the different aspects of the movie-going experience. Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell is one that fans of SOV and WTF films as well as Deadites should enjoy. K. detention facility, and have been finally granted an opportunity for housing in their new country. There’s the La Casa series in Italy, wherein unrelated movies (including House II and House III, but not the original House! The print itself looks good, although given the film’s Super8 origins it’s still going to be grainy, which is as it should be with a film like this. The more methodical pacing allows the sense of unease to unfurl slowly, eventually stripping away any semblance of hope through terrifying spectral encounters and devastating loss. André Øvredal goes full throttle for the scares in this quiet little chiller that sees a father and son coroner team stumped over the bizarre mysteries contained within the body of an unidentified young woman. Shot on video in 95, edited in 2005, released in 2009, and finally, finally available on a modern digital format in 2017, I can't believe it took me til 2020 to have an opportunity to abuse my eyeballs with this shit! Other than the main character having big muscles and using a few weights to impale corpses and smash body pieces, there isn’t really much of a body-building theme.

A true horror oddity, Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell is worth a watch, especially if you’re a fan of bizarre cinema… and Evil Dead!

I did know going in that it was inspired by The Evil Dead, but I didn’t know it was a low budget DIY SOV type deal because 80’s/90’s J-horror has just never been a part of the horror world into which I’ve taken a dive.

Tribute” is a generous term; Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell apes so much from Evil Dead that it’s virtually an unauthorized remake. The film is light on story and has a very small cast with a minuscule budget that took a number of years to complete with filming starting in 1995. Written, directed by, and starring Shinichi Fukazawa, this movie is an homage/spoof of Evil Dead, but also brings it's own dose of originality, and Fukazawa pulls it off with a cast of only 3 people. Although no one does it quite like Raimi, Fukazawa admirably attempts to emulate his kinetic ingenuity. this movie lives up to it's reputation of being a whack-o derivative piece of gonzo film making, all in a span of 62 minutes.

Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell’s backstory involves the spirit of a woman killed in the house by Naoto’s father and waiting all these years for revenge, but it’s just an excuse to have characters become possessed and stage some outrageous gore gags.
