About this deal

The band consists of Ricky Wilson (vocals), Andrew "Whitey" White (guitar), Simon Rix (bass), Nick "Peanut" Baines (keyboards) and Vijay Mistry(drums). It's probably a good book for first time readers of Bateman as it does not require any previous knowledge of characters.

We speak of revolutions against the system and for some, that night in 2012 represented just that, but for others it was just tomorrow’s fish and chips wrapping. Luke from DewsburyBack in 2004, shortly before the Kaiser Chiefs released their first singles, Leeds United were going through a period of having groups, usually local, perform a song or two on the pitch before matches or at half time. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. I was obsessed with the Clash at the time and wanted to emulate what their bass player, Paul Simonon, was doing. I heard passionate expressions for the need of better education, to close the divide between rich and poor. Little did I know, a year later in 2012, that I would be asking what the effects of these riots were on the people of Nottingham, and how and why Nottingham got involved. Majestyk, which the frontman also references in his NME interview, was one such venue that would have witnessed many of the scenes described in the track. In anticipation of the activist exhibitions Aftermath Dislocation Principle (ADP), and Fighting Walls + a rebel scene at NAE, Rhiannon Jones considers the 2011 riots and what lead to the social outbreak.

We did the section where the vocals build up because, when we started out, our sets only lasted 25 minutes so we knew that’s how long we had to get people’s attention.

Die-hard copper Superintendent James 'Marsh' Mallow, of the Belfast CID, is nearing the end of his career, but he's not handing in his badge until he's nailed notorious politician and racketeer Pink Harrison. From reality TV to political rallies, there is a clamour to be heard, to narrate, and to receive attention. The band has released seven albums as of 2020 and have released 27 singles, including the hits I Predict a Riot, Oh My God, Ruby and Never Miss a Beat. I remember being frustrated, but after that Black Wire gig, we played it through with that new chorus.

The main plot is the band wandering and performing in an Edwardian town, catching the attention of a mysterious freak show owner. The song thrives on its Yorkshire heritage with the use of pronouns such as " thee", a nod to the band's origins, for "thee" and "thou" survived in Yorkshire dialect and are still used to an extent today. One thing the word was definitely used for is to describe a former pupil of the Leeds Grammar School, which they both attended, and the name of its school magazine. For our foreign readers, the archaic form "thee" is still used instead of "you" in the north of England, especially in Yorkshire, where Leeds is. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.Stu from Fife, ScotlandIs it not: "Watching the people get leery; It's not very pretty, I tell thee", because leery means looking sly, as if plotting something. As always though Bateman comes to their rescue and ensured that my sympathy remained with them all with the exception of the villain Pink Harrison and his henchmen. If the book had been a little shorter and slightly more had happened it would have been one of Bateman's best. And five years later, in the context of today, of Brexit, of Black Lives Matter of ISIS and The X factor, I’m still asking that very same question for this article. I heard how people reacted because it was a moment to speak out, to throw a lighter at a closed police station, to steal trainers, to smash car windows and stand and be seen in the street as a collective.
