About this deal

No issues with feedback, dials in easily (didn't even touch the gain), just send it phantom and you're good to go. I'm gonna be sincere: I have a few of those vocal mics: DPA 2028, Neumann KMS105 and Sennheiser MD441. Add to this the fact that we are running both mics through the UA 4-710D and then into a Behringer X32 rack finishing with Bose F1 model 812 with sub fronts, we have a pretty awesome sounding duo. You should note that the pickup pattern of this mic is very tight which will require the singer to stay on axis for consistent performance and as such it is not the best microphone for ambient duty in my opinion. I finally got a chance to use it recently at a gig I played and the guy running the sound came up to me afterwards and asked me all about it saying it was one of the best mics he has heard and worked with.

An extended flat frequency response and a focus on fast clean impulse response set the Earthworks SR314 apart. The only reason why I wouldn't use the 2028 in the studio is the noise floor, which is irrelevant live. From broadcasts and podcasts, to voiceovers, stage performance and studio work, this mic will thrive in a tonne of different auditory situations. Agreed - being the in-house sound guy at your average small venue is thankless - a parade of no-hopers with the occasional bright light. Its stainless steel body is expertly sculpted through precision machining yielding an instrument that is beautiful to look at, balanced in the hand and sensibly engineered for life on the road. You can then choose which finance term you'd like to apply for, and change your deposit if you wish. At angles out to 45 degrees off-axis, the SR314 sounds virtually identical to the way it does at 0 degrees, so most singers won’t have an issue remaining in the sweet spot. It might be a bit of a shock to some vocalists, especially those who are used to gigging with beat-up dynamic microphones, but the SR314 instantly struck me as bringing studio-quality sound to the stage.

Protected within its steel exoskeleton is a studio quality small diaphragm cardioid condenser capsule coupled with a Class A amplifier circuit that leverages Earthworks’ patented and proprietary technologies to deliver one of the fastest mics on the planet. The SR314 ships with a nylon pouch and a microphone stand clip, and is warranted for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase—an impressive commitment from the folks at Earthworks. At a 12-inch distance, the low-frequency response gently rolls off below 100 Hz to approximately -5 dB at 20 Hz. and i stand correct that hiss is either coming from the source, mic, preamp, mis-use of processing or from level mis-match between gear in the analog domain (which may happen at the very last stage though): the amps then only make it louder. This is a by-product of the mic’s extended low-frequency response and can be held in check by using a highpass filter or a foam windscreen (in some cases, I opted for the windscreen).Especially since you're not a quiet singer in a loud rock band, trying to scrape as much GBF from the mic. Earthworks' claims about the off-axis behaviour of the microphone are also thoroughly vindicated in practice. If you sing directly into it too close, it will pop on plosives, but with decent technique you can eliminate that. The SR314, as with all Earthworks microphones, is designed to reproduce an exceptionally natural sound with high fidelity and reliability. It certainly allows the singer to move around the mic in a similar way to the 58, while being nicer-sounding and slightly more feedback resistant.
