All written content contained on this site belongs to the author, unless otherwise stated, and should not be appropriated for use by anyone without permission. While I can see on an artistic level the idea of a sweet friendship developing between two helpless captives, we just don't see enough of these two in the book, indeed I do wonder if there was more of Chasim's plot in the original series which got cut in editing.

The city’s memory stones offer a wealth of detail about Kelsingra’s history and significance, along with glimpses of the lives of those who once lived there. Chasim's introduction also to me felt as if it rather cheapened the suffering of Selden, indeed I almost feel that this was Hobb trying to show that however bad men have things (and what Selden goes through at the Duke's hands is pretty horrific), women always have it worse. As the last of the Rain Wild Chronicles, I thought this book brought the series to a satisfactory conclusion and I didn’t feel that anything significant had been left unresolved.

Alongside these more magical aspects there were some very satisfying moments of human drama: I’m not going to say anything about Hest, except to note that it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving chap. Although I love the book I feel as if it is too short and some parts of e story could have been given in more detail. It is also good to see all the trilogies come together in a sort of understanding that takes your mind back to key points from other stories. This even goes down to the mundane, rarely has an author given me the sense of a world where characters eat breakfast, get bored, go to the toilet and have very normal concerns the way Hobb does, despite this being a world with dragons and sea serpents and magic.I do my best to locate the creators of all artwork used on this site, but sometimes the images have become divorced from their artist information by the time I find them. I've always been interested by your affection for the Soldier Son trilogy, which – considering that we seem to have very similar tastes – I would probably enjoy, if only I could get into it.

Throughout the series I’ve been trying to fit what we see into my existing framework of the Wit and Skill, and attempting to understand where we can draw parallels. Although these four novels seem very separate from the rest of the sequence (only a few shared characters with The Liveship Traders and hardly any overlap at all with the Farseer and Tawny Man books), I’m still pleased that I read them as they have added to the overall world-building and helped me to understand more about the relationship between dragons and Elderlings. In Blood of Dragons however, I did rather wonder if Hobb was attempting a little too much since while certain aspects of the plot are most satisfyingly and completely dealt with, other aspects seemed under developed. Robin is damn good at drawing characters and her characters are what stay with us after we have put down her books.Other works as Robin Hobb include The Soldier Son trilogy and short stories published in various anthologies.
