This post introduces an extended set of firmware features now available on 6 models of Browning Trail Cameras: The Recon Force and SpecOps versions of the Edge, Elite-HP4, and Elite-HP5 (BTC-7E, BTC-8E, BTC-7E-HP4, BTC-8E-HP4, BTC-7E-HP5, BTC-8E-HP5). In general use, we don’t use the USB port to download photos in the field — we just swap the SD card, like most everyone else. The only difference between this and the Spec Ops Elite HP4 is that this camera has low-glow, rather than no-glow, LEDs. Cellular cameras are closer, but Cellular wireless is not quite what you want due to it’s high latency and lack of peer-to-peer support. It’s possible Browning made this modification along with the faster trigger speed in the Elite to increase the likelihood that animals are in the center of the frame for singleton photos. the venerable BTC-7A: it’s certainly smaller, more battery-efficient, and has a shorter trigger delay.
