Some were realistic, some abstract, but no matter where they were on the body, all of them were drawn and colored in such an arresting, singular way that it felt .Probably Carroll’s best book in several years, it does though make you wish for the sharpness of him at his considerable beat to refine some of the edges which feel a little like missed opportunities. In all of them there is love or fame and of course danger because once he has chosen, there is no telling what will happen next. Carroll is an experienced author who can take fantastical ideas and give them a sense of place and purpose. Graham Patterson is a cleverly drawn character; everyman enough to be able to represent the reader in everything he’s experiencing but special enough for the reader to become invested in his fate.
