About this deal

I should have know better than to start this after noon, because now it’s 1:30am and I’m gonna have to go get an ice pack for my puffy eyes and a new box of Kleenex for those weird post-sob little hiccups of more sobbing. Justin and Emma were such relatable characters and it was exciting and easy to watch their relationship unfold. No spoilies but I did like the conclusion of the book and I found the characters decently flushed out. I think that it's also important to mention that his is by far her darkest book because it deals with a lot of heavy topics and I would check trigger warnings before diving into this one.

I think this is definitely Abby’s heaviest, most emotional work so far but I think it was done wonderfully.Abby’s mental health representation is so wonderful and I’m happy to see that made another appearance here. Seems like the curse was actually working in her favor because she never had to worry about "the one that got away". Once again, Abby has knocked it out of the park with deep and complex relationships of all kinds, addressing real-life and often ugly and scary mental health issues and the carnage they can leave within us, and somehow manages to make us laugh in the midst of it.

I think that at this rate Abby is intentionally trying to see how many times she can make me sob in a book! For some reason, the writing was giving me the cringiest vibes since the beginning and I couldn't look past that. Abby Jimenez is a Food Network winner, New York Times best selling author, and recipient of the 2022 Minnesota Book Award for her novel Life's Too Short. The bakery has since gone on to win numerous Food Network competitions and, like her books, has amassed an international following. People like Emma need people like Maddy to keep them in check, to remind them who abandoned them, who hurt them, who didn’t care which was always Amber. The way that this book and story felt so real, yet navigated difficult and heart wrenching topics was so beautifully done. There were things that I liked, like Maddie (she was fun) and I loved seeing Daniel, Alexis, Jacob and Briana appearances. As all fans of Abby know, we can count on her books for A+ banter and comedic relief and JFTS absolutely delivers in this regard.
